Our Pollinators Need You
The Yellow Legged Asian Hornets is an invasive non-native species and a MAJOR threat to ALL our native pollinators and other insects.
They are apex predators, feeding primarily on other insects such as flies and wasps, although they will take almost all insect and spiders. They are particularly notorious for their predation of honeybees, which poses a substantial threat to honeybee populations and the pollination they provide. The hornets have a voracious appetite and each colony can consume over 100,000 insects during a single season.
The introduction of the Asian hornet to the UK poses a significant ecological threat. Honeybees and the other pollinators play a vital role in the ecosystem, as they are responsible for pollinating a vast range of plants, including many of the crops that make up our food supply. Pollinator populations are already in decline and a further decline could lead to a reduction in crop yields and a subsequent increase in food prices.
This invasive non-native species directly impacts us all.

When an Asian Hornet is seen and reported the National Bee Unit (NBU) are very successful in tracking them and finding their nest which can then destroyed.
However, the most important single aspect of combating the spread of the Asian Hornet is the initial sighting. And that is where you can help.
The CATCH system has been created by Asian Hornet Alert in conjunction with Pendulum Development Ltd to promote a community action group and bring together all interested parties to maximise awareness, increase sightings and stop the spread of the Asian Hornet.
